Bite-Sized Cinnamon Almond Scones Recipe

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup chopped almonds
  • For the glaze:
    • 1 cup powdered sugar
    • 2-3 tablespoons milk
    • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • Additional cinnamon for dusting (optional)

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone baking mat.

Prepare the Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon until well combined.

Incorporate the Butter: Add the cold cubed butter to the dry ingredients.

Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces of butter remaining.

Add Wet Ingredients: In a separate small bowl, mix together the buttermilk and vanilla extract.

Pour the wet ingredients into the flour mixture and gently stir until just combined.

Be careful not to overmix.

Fold in Almonds: Gently fold in the chopped almonds until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Form the Scones: Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface.

With your hands, gently pat the dough into a circle about 1-inch thick.

Using a sharp knife or a floured cookie cutter, cut the dough into small bite-sized triangles or rounds.

Bake: Place the scones onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the scones are lightly golden brown on top.

Prepare the Glaze: While the scones are baking, prepare the glaze.

In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract until smooth.

Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed.

Glaze the Scones: Once the scones are done baking, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool slightly on the baking sheet.

Drizzle the glaze over the warm scones using a spoon or pastry brush.

Serve: Optionally, sprinkle a little ground cinnamon over the glazed scones for extra flavor.

Serve the bite-sized cinnamon almond scones warm or at room temperature. Enjoy with a cup of hot tea or coffee!

These bite-sized cinnamon almond scones are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a delightful afternoon snack.

Enjoy the warm, buttery goodness with a hint of cinnamon and crunch of almonds in every bite!
