Chocolate Coffee Cake (Easy 1-layer Cake) Recipes

  • by

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup brewed coffee, cooled to room temperature
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Sifting helps to ensure a lighter, smoother cake texture.

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the brewed coffee, vegetable oil, white vinegar, and vanilla extract.

Use a whisk or electric mixer on low speed to mix the ingredients until smooth and well combined. Be careful not to overmix; just mix until no large lumps remain.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.

Place the cake pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, carefully transfer the cake onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Once the cake has cooled, you can dust the top with powdered sugar for a decorative touch, if desired.

Slice and serve the chocolate coffee cake on its own or with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.

Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for longer freshness.

Enjoy your delicious and easy-to-make Chocolate Coffee Cake!
